Birralee Venturer Unit

14 to 18 years

Can YOU handle the excitment?

As a Venturer Scout, you could find yourself camping above the snow line, exploring underwater reefs, riding the wind in a high-performance land yacht, earning your pilot's licence, investigating a career in astro-physics, editing your own film, making a sculpture or climbing a sheer rock face.

Venturer Scouts have the courage and confidence to say, try and do. You are given opportunities to experience the excitement of living and the training to develop into a capable, self-reliant individual.

The action and adventure a Venturer Scout experiences doesn't just develop your physical skills. It also prepares you to meet challenges, to deal with new situations, and to gain independence.

You work alongside adults, rather than being told what to do by them, and you draw on their experiences and contacts to get the best out of your program that you design to suit your needs.

You belong to a group of young people your own age, about 15 of you in a Unit. You run your own affairs through a Unit Council. You speak out for your own viewpoint and share the decisions, help make the plans and follow them through.

Queens Scout

The Queen's Scout Award is the the highest award of the Venturer Section, having been the top award of the Senior Scout section pior to the name change to Venturers in the 1970's. This award is the highest award in many countries and is awarded in the realms of the Commonwealth including the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. The Queen's Scout Award is, in reality, conferred on the recipient by the monarch via Royal Warrant, which means you are not awarded the Queen's Scout but rather you become a Queen's Scout. This award is presented by the Chief Scout of each Branch and the Governor, as representatives of the Queen, at Government House.

Venturer Scout Meetings

Venturer Scouts meet on Sunday nights (during school terms) from 6.00 to 8.00PM. Feel free to stop by and visit to see first hand what our Venturer Scouts do each week. Your can visit and attend a couple of meetings at no cost, and no obligation, to see if they like Venturer's before you decide if you would like to join up. Sometimes Venturers may change their meeting night to attend something special, such as a joint meeting with other Sections or Groups, so if you wish to check first please contact our Group Leader on 0427 468 027 (Martin) to confirm the next meeting.

Venturer Unform

The Venturer Scout uniform consists of a dark blue shirt with the Section colour, which is maroon, across the sleeve, yoke and collar. A blue or moss-green belt, Group scarf, and a woggle, also form part of the uniform.

Badge Placement

When a Venturer first joins and is invested into the Unit they will receive a number of badges that need to be sewn onto the uniform. Afterwards during their time in Venturers they will earn various achievment badges and/or special interest badges. All of these have a designated location on the uniform they need to be placed.
