Try Scouts!
Interested in trying out Scouting? Why not bring your child down to our hall and let them see just how much fun Scouting can be!
How do I get my child to try Scouting?
All you need to do is bring your child to the weekly meeting of the relevant Section. It’s that simple! You can try Scouting for up to 4 weeks, allowing your child to try different activities before they decide if they want to join.
What do they wear?
Simply dress your child in casual clothing, with enclosed shoes. It is important that they wear enclosed shoes and not thongs or sandles.
Can I stay with my child and watch?
Yes, of course you can! Particularly with the younger children (e.g. Joey, Cub) parents often stay and even help with the activities.
What if my child doesn’t like Scouting?
In the (unlikely!) event that yur child decides that Scouting isn’t for them, you simply don’t bring them back! There is no obligation to join just because they come down to try it out.
What does it cost?
It is FREE to bring your child along to the first night. If you decicde to bring your child along to try Scouting for the full 4 nights you will need to pay $20, which covers your child for insurances should they get injured before they join fully.
IF THEY CHOOSE TO JOIN, then this $20 is used to pay the once only Joining Fee applicable to all new members. You will also need to pay the term membership fee of $60 (per term) at the time that you decide to join them. This covers their insurances and state capitation fee, a Group contribution that helps pay for the upkeep of the hall, badges, scarf, equipment, etc, plus a Section contribution that helps pay for badges and the costs of running each meeting (contact our Group Leader if you would like a break down of the membership fees)
IF THEY CHOOSE NOT TO JOIN, then the $20 pays for the temporary insurances the Group had to cover so your child was fully covered during their trial.
Where can I find more information?
When you come to our hall a Leader will talk to you, answer any questions, and give you one of our New Members Information packs. Alternatively you can download the New Member Information Pack.
