Scouts Deliver Telephone Books

If you live around the Cessnock area then you probably saw lots of Scouts carrying armfulls of telephone books around the streets this weekend. As part of their Scout Job Week activities, Leaders from the Cessnock City Scout Group accompanied by Cub, Scout and Venturer Members delivered around 6,000 telephone books in the Cessnock City area this weekend, after delivering books around the Paxton - Bellbrid area last weekend.

In total Cessnock City Scouts and Cubs will deliver some 9,900 telephone directories to homes and businesses in Cessnock, Nulkaba, Aberdare, Kearsley, Bellbird and Paxton area. The money earned from these deliveries will go towards new equipment for the Group, maintenance of the Scout Hall, and possibly help pay camp fees for youth attending Jamboree.

“The youth and that participated should be congratulated on an excellent job, as should the Leaders and parents that helped to get this all organised and running” said Cessnock City Group Leader, Martin “Bear” Howells. “The support this weekend was fantastic with a number of parents volunteering their vehicle and time to transport books and youth around the town. All of them deserve a huge pat on the back for the help they have provided” he said.

So, Cessnock residents, whenever you look at your telephone book over the next 12 months, remember that the boys and girls of the Cessnock City Scout Group delivered it so they could raise money to help keep their Group running!

A trailer and 4WD full of phone books will keep these youth members busy for a while!
