Job Week Again

Many parents will remember the old "bob-a-job" week when Scouts would come around and tidy the garden or mow the lawns in order to earn money for their Group. This has been a long standing event on the Scouting calendar for many years, and with 2008 being the Australian centenary of Scouting Job Week has been extended!

Scout Job Week will run until the end of July, allowing Cubs, Scouts and Venturers from Cessnock to use the school holidays to perform their jobs and fill their job card. “Youth members will be uniformed and accompanied by an adult” said Martin Howells, Group Leader of Cessnock City Scout Group. “Safety is of the utmost importance and all youth have been instructed to only approach neighbours they know, or family and friends, and to always take an adult with them for supervision” he said.

Money earned from Job Week activities will help the Group buy equipment needed to help provide weekly activities and camps for the youth. Scouts Australia recommends that payment be at least $2 for each half hour worked, however people are able to pay more or less, depending on the job done and the time taken.
