Wakalatoe Joey Mob

6 to 8 yrs

Joey Scouts is the first Section of Scouts, for boys and girls aged 6 - 8. The emphasis is on fun and friendship and a gentle introduction to a world of challenges and adventures through Scouting.

A trained Joey Scout Leader guides a Joey Mob of up to 20 boys and girls as they learn to share and care for each other in a social environment. It's more than school as it extends each child's understanding of the world around them. Joey's learn how to recognise native birds and animals and develop an understanding of the impact of our modern world on the environment.

Joey Scout Meetings

Joey Scouts meet on Wednesday nights (during school terms) from 5.15 to 6.15PM. Feel free to stop by and visit to see first hand what our Joey Scouts do each week. Your child can visit and attend a couple of meetings at no cost to see if they like Joey's before you decide if you would like to join them up, but we are confident that once they join the fun they'll want to come back!

Joey Scout Participation Scheme

Promise Challenge Badge

There is now a Joey Scouts Promise Challenge. A Promise Challenge Card needs to be completed prior to the badge being awarded. The aim of this challenge is to allow older Joey Scouts to gain a greater understanding of the Promise and Law and to learn about our founder, Lord Robert Baden-Powell (BP), and the history of Scouting.

Participation Badges

Caring and Sharing Badge

Each Joey Mob runs programs for one month that focuses on caring and sharing and develops their understanding of such a concept.

Buddy Scheme Badge

Mobs visit each other, share activities and have great fun. There are three steps involved in participating in the Buddy Scheme which aims at building a rapport and friendship between different Mobs. As a result, the Joey Scouts from the two Mobs become Buddies and the badge is awarded.

Environment Challenge Badge

Four simple Environmental Challenges (tasks) are to be undertaken by the Mob as a whole that are aimed at developing an appreciation and respect for the natural environment and a sense of responsibility towards it.

Adventure Challenge Badge

The Adventure Challenge is designed to broaden each Joey Scout's life experiences through visiting places their Mob doesn't usually go to. It runs in conjunction with the aims, principles and educational methods of Scouting, providing an excellent theme for fun activities. Some of the adventures the Mob could go on include a trip to the beach, waterway, zoo, museum, bushwalk, farm etc.

Joey Scouts Care and Share

Joey Unform

The Joey Scout uniform consists of a dark blue shirt with the Section colour, which is tan, across the sleeve, yoke and collar. A blue or moss-green belt, Group scarf, and a woggle, also form part of the uniform.

Badge Placement

When a Joey first joins and is invested into the Mob they will receive a number of badges that need to be sewn onto the uniform. Afterwards during their time in Joeys they may earn the Joey challenge badges and/or special interest badges. All of these have a designated location on the uniform they need to be placed.
